Mrs. Sigríður Á. Andersen, Minister of Justice since January 11th 2017.


Sigríður Á. Andersen has been a Member of Parliament for the Independence Party in the South Reykjavík Constituency since 2015 and has participated in several Parliamentary committees as an alternate MP.

Born in 1971, she received her law degree from the University of Iceland in 1999. She worked as a lawyer for the Iceland Chamber of Commerce from 1999-2005, sat on the Judicial Council from 2004-2009, and worked as a District Court Attorney for Lex Law Offices from 2007-2015. Sigríður was a member of the Board of Andríki Publishing from 1995–2006 and the editorial board of Vefþjóðviljinn from 1995-2006. Other board memberships include Heimdallur, the association of young Independence Party members, from 1996-1997; Vörður, the representative council of Independence Party members in Reykjavík; and the central board of the Independence Party from 2005-2009. She was chairman of the Association of Independence Party Members for West and Central Reykjavík from 2006-2009, chairman of the Spanish-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce from 2007-2011, and a member of the Board of the American-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce from 2013 onwards. She is married to chemist Glúmur Jón Björnsson, and they have two daughters.
